Fefu and Her Friends

Loyola University Maryland 2026 Spotlight Players Show

Digital photographs, 2025

Each year as students come back from winter break, the Loyola University Maryland Spotlight Players present a student-directed play that donates its ticket sales to a nonprofit of the director’s choosing. This year, student director Alexis Piasecki chose to direct the play Fefu and Her Friends by María Irene Fornés. This play tackles topics of female friendship, queerness, PTSD, and more through this tale of seven women who meet to plan for a fundraiser. I was asked to create a series of photos of the cast in character to promote the show. The director asked me to create a very dramatic, movie-inspired shoot with hints of Surrealist elements. To accomplish this, I used very dramatic lighting and poses that really brought the characters to life. These photos were used on Loyola’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts Instagram page and website for promotional purposes. One photo of Fefu, the main character, wearing her plaid shawl, was additionally used to create an oil painting prop for the show.
