The Sound

Acrylic on canvas, 2025

When asked to create a painting based on a sound, one very specific memory popped into mind. When I visited North Carolina for spring break as a child, my family and I would often collapse into snuggles after a long day outside and hunker down for a nap. As we fell asleep, my father put white noise of a grandfather clock on to help us get to sleep faster and sounder.
This fond memory still makes me smile to think of, and I tried to capture the love and warmth this sound brings me along with the movement of the water and the sand. I chose to interpret this memory as a grandfather clock resting in the sand as the sun sets, the perfect mix of sleepy and vibrant.
